What Is Fitbit & How Does The Fitbit Work?

Wondering what is Fitbit and how do their devices work? Fitbit (like many other activity trackers) has an altimeter in some of their devices to help track the number of steps you take in a day. You can set goals, and the bands will vibrate to notify you when you’ve reached your goals.

Personal Experience

I love how my Fitbit motivates me to get up and move, increasing my exercise each day! It also helps me keep time and allows me to turn off the ringer on my cell phone while still knowing when someone is calling with just a quiet alert on my wrist. – Michelle, a desk worker who needs more activity

Some of the devices tell time, and the more advanced ones have GPS, music control, smart notifications, caller ID and more. They have a range of products in all sizes and colors. Everything from a simple (and incognito) clip to their newest Versa 2, a full-fledged smartwatch.

6 Key Features

  2. Active minutes tracked and more
  3. Music control and GPS (on some models)
  4. Water resistant
  5. Comes in variety of types of wristbands and clips
  6. Records sleep patterns and has a smart alarm

Customer Reviews

Everyone we know has loved their Fitbits. We’ve heard very few complaints about these activity trackers. We did do some searching online and found a couple of positive and a couple of negative reviews to share with you.

Positive Reviews

I’m really enjoying this purchase. The Versa 2 is really comfortable. This is very accurate on sleep tracking. I was never satisfied with any of the previous models on sleep. Step count has improved as well. I recently bought a charge 3 for my wife and I might have to upgrade to this one because in so impressed by it.  I love the endless face possibilities. – RickG, Best Buy 11/2019

I bought this fitness tracker to monitor my heartrate and guide me to help keep on track for working out. I got the watch because of the larger display. I’m 59 my eyes aren’t that sharp anymore. What I’ve found is that I’m very pleased with all the notification features that I now have. I use my phone allot in my work as an construction manager and I now rarely miss a text or call because of the vibration alerts on the watch. Also the alarm to get up without waking up the wife is great. My fitness is going in the right direction and my work time with the watch is great. – Dayne71, REI 11/2019

Complaints

I spent a lot of time researching fitness watches/trackers and finally decided on the Fitbit Versa 2. I didn’t want an Apple watch because of the expense and too many features I simply didn’t need. I mainly wanted a watch for fitness monitoring and especially its sleep monitoring features. I was excited to get it going only to be sorely disappointed. Aside from the physical design, the rest seems as if it were an afterthought rolled out in a rush for the holiday season without undergoing proper product testing. – TRS80, Best Buy 11/2019

Worked well for about 6 months. Initially I was very satisfied with the Versa. Then the screen developed a single crack. Warranty is only valid for 30 days and they don’t make screen protectors. There is no way to fix or replace the screen. Fitbit support overall was not a positive experience. Multiple follow up emails asking a few random questions at a time about where you live and where you made your purchase. Errors in the emails referring to other customers. Then a simple no resolution, case closed. $225.00 for 6 months was a mistake I wish I wouldn’t have made and I hope you avoid. Find a better product and a better company. – Gabriel, Best Buy 11/2019
