Deep Sentinel camera on outside of home (caption: Deep Sentinel Review)Deep Sentinel offers a minimalistic security system comprised of a hub and security cameras. It uses artificial intelligence and remote security guards to prevent crime from happening.

If you’ve had a break-in, you know how scary it can be. Having someone rummage through your belongings as if you didn’t exist can strip away your sense of safety in your home. Can Deep Sentinel provide the sense of security you need to sleep peacefully at night?

How Does Deep Sentinel Work?

Deep Sentinel’s cameras are monitored by artificial intelligence (AI) and remote human guards. When a camera detects motion, the AI determines if there’s a potential threat — it can detect the difference between a human, car or pet and distinguish between suspicious and non-suspicious behavior.

If suspicious behavior is detected, the camera’s red LED ring will spin. This brings attention to the camera and may be enough to scare off the criminal. Suspected suspicious behavior also alerts a live guard who views the livestream to determine if action should be taken.

This could mean the live guard speaks to a person through two-way audio to scare them off or they may contact the authorities if things have escalated. This is an all-in attempt to prevent criminal activity from taking place to begin with.

The video below shows how Deep Sentinel works. No activity is taken by Deep Sentinel when a package is delivered. However, when an individual lingers outside the home and appears to attempt to steal the package, Deep Sentinel intervenes. This results in no criminal activity taking place. Other security companies rely on you to intervene since authorities aren’t generally sent to a home based on camera activity.

Should I Be Concerned About Privacy?

Deep Sentinel Privacy Mode schedulerYour first thought is probably “can’t the guards see everything that’s happening through those cameras 24/7”? Since this is a revolutionary product in the home security world in terms of actual humans having access to your cameras, this was bound to be a concern, and rightfully so. How did Deep Sentinel prepare for this?

Manual Privacy Mode

You can manually control access to your cameras using the Privacy Mode feature in the app. Simply press the home symbol or privacy button on the app’s home page and specify which camera you want to put into “privacy mode,” which disables the security guard’s access to the feed. The privacy timer can be in increments of up to 24 hours for each camera.

Privacy Scheduler Mode

Deep Sentinel’s app also has a Privacy Mode scheduler (pictured at right), which allows you to create a privacy schedule for your cameras. So if you have someone coming to your home at the same time every day or week for construction, landscaping, babysitting, etc. you can disable the guards’ access to those cameras during that timeframe. The scheduler allows for 7-day planning.

Privacy Policy

Deep Sentinel has a “Trifecta of Privacy” Policy to help you feel more comfortable about how your security and privacy will be affected. According to the policy, Deep Sentinel only provides video to government agencies if ordered by law or in order to stop a crime in progress to protect you and your family.

Additionally, you will know who is accessing your data, why and when. A guard typically views your Deep Sentinel camera about 30 times per day. You’ll receive a notification via app as well as the guard’s name.

Camera Tech Specs

  • 1080p HD

Is Installation Easy?

First, you’ll want to download the Deep Sentinel app (iOS, Android) and sign up for an account. Once you set up your account, the app takes you through the setup process.

  1. Find a central location in your home to place the hub so all cameras can connect to it
  2. Connect your hub to the router via ethernet cable
  3. Turn the hub on – when the green LED blinks, it means it’s setting up, and once it’s a solid LED it’s done
  4. Set up a “protection zone,” which is a box you draw in the app for the area you want monitored, so you’re able to leave out your neighbors’ yards, streets, etc. and it helps reduce false alarms

The camera itself is wireless and has a 100-foot range from the hub. The camera mount requires one screw, so it’s a pretty quick and easy setup.

What Do Users Think Of Deep Sentinel?

Positive Reviews

Excellent proactive home surveillance with computer vision cameras that assist live guards who intercept suspicious behavior. I’ve had my system for 6 months now and feel comfortable sleeping at night knowing they’re always watching 24/7 and they address issues before they escalate. – Stephanie H., Yelp 3/29/2020

I couldn’t live or sleep without this system and I honestly wasn’t able to before. I love how no one can come near my house without someone watching their movements and motives. Most of the time we just have packages coming, but they did stop my creepy neighbor from looking into my window. We plan to move soon and I’ll definitely be adding more cameras. I do have another system for inside the home because it has a panic button, which I guess speaks to my level of anxiety, but hey, DS makes me feel a lot better about knowing me and my family are safe. – Sierra M., Yelp 2/25/2020

Complaints

…The Hub requires you to connect it to you modem or router directly with a network cable. So if your setup is no where near the center, or close to the cameras, of the building your are in, the wireless connection between the cameras and the hub won’t work properly or at all. The Hub and the cameras go offline even when the wifi in my home is solid and working properly.  All my other devices work great. Now the App. NEVER worked for me. It keeps telling me that there is “No Internet Connection”, which is not accurate. As mentioned before, my WiFi works great and all my other devices are consistently connected properly. The only reason I didn’t give them a 1 star is because the customer service/Tech support is great. They are continuously trying to figure out what going on with the App. “Trying” is the key word here. It’s been weeks and coming close to a month and my app still isn’t working. – Joseph C., Yelp 7/2/2019

Cameras are great. Customer service located on west coast so zero customer service or technical support till after lunch on the east coast. Sux. If i knew this i would have considered another security system. Part time customer support is poor support. – Bill R., Yelp 1/6/2020

Is A Security Guard Too Much For Your Home?

Visit Deep Sentinel Website

Deep Sentinel offers a simple security system with only a hub and cameras. Most home security companies we’ve reviewed offer additional door/window sensors, motion sensors, glass break sensors, etc. not to mention a host of home automation features (you can control everything from your thermostat to receiving alerts from monitored smoke, carbon monoxide and freeze sensors, for example). But perhaps all these components aren’t as necessary with Deep Sentinel because the whole point is for the human guards to catch criminals through the cameras before a crime is committed.

The Live Sentinel Security Guards may feel like a bit of overkill for some homeowners, but for those who want the added protection and peace of mind, this is a very reasonably priced system compared to hiring a personal security guard.
