Battery Backup

If the power goes out in your home, battery backup will keep your Protection One system on and your home protected. Protection One has a 24-hour battery backup, which is the standard in home security.

Protection One sends a notification when there’s a power outage to keep you up to date on the status of your system. The backup battery is rechargeable, so once power is restored, the battery will recharge back to 24 hours, so it is ready for any future needs.

The entire system will continue to work during a power outage unless the equipment requires a high-speed internet connection (e.g., cameras). Door/window sensors, motion sensors, glass break sensors, etc. do not require a high-speed internet connection, so they will work with battery backup and you will be informed of any triggers to these devices.

What Do Users Think Of Protection One?

Positive Reviews

We chose Protection 1 after doing some research on what they had to offer compared to other alarm companies and their level of customer service after the sale. We have been a customer for many years now and I find them to be very helpful after the sale. Great customer service! – Raymond, Consumer Affairs 3/27/2019

I’m from L.A. and everybody in Hollywood that has recording studios have Protection 1. I’ve used them for my basement studio since 2001. I have sensors and motion detectors, and everything works. It’s a great service. The thing I really like is that they answer their phones 24/7 and they are always there. And you don’t get a foreign country. So, you get somebody you feel like you can communicate with. – James, Consumer Affairs 12/31/2016

Negative Reviews

Protection 1 is the only service provider that has told me I must pay for the next 6 months service even though I’m moving. Three year contract is hard to imagine and really don’t recall that being highlighted when setting up system. You pay for all the equipment, upgrades, service calls and monitoring… It’s ridiculous to pay even after you move out. I will be sure to let the people in my 1000+ homes new neighborhood know on the community Facebook page to use any other service! ADT should reconsider having this be part of their product line. I used ADT for years prior to this and never had a negative comment to make. Protection 1 should be Protection None. – Susan, Consumer Affairs 5/31/2019

Protection One uses unscrupulous door-to-door sales agents that claimed that my security company had gone out of business, that they’d taken over the accounts, and that I had to buy new equipment and sign a new contract to keep my home alarm service. This was a lie and now the company refuses to let me out of the contract they I signed through their fraudulent practices and procedures. It was not just the unsolicited salesman but also the company rep on the phone. Buyers Beware. Scam Artists. – Adrian W., BBB 3/25/2019

Protection One vs Other Home Security Companies

Protection One isn’t our first pick for a home security provider. It charges additional fees for things like 2-way voice that others offer in their base packages. It has an extremely short warranty period of only 90 days (most competitors offer at least 1 year), and its equipment is pretty outdated looking. You can get a less expensive home security system with more current technology from one of the top-ranking companies listed in our best home security systems comparison.
