We’ve put two of the biggest names in identity theft protection in a head-to-head battle: IdentityForce vs Identity Guard. Which one comes out on top?
|Customer Service & Reputation|
Protecting consumers since 2005, IdentityForce has an excellent reputation. Their accolades include Identity Protection Leader by Javelin, People’s Choice Stevie Awards for Favorite New Product, a Gold Stevie Award for having the best product in the industry, and more.
Identity Guard’s parent company, Intersections Inc., has been a leading ID theft service for over 20 years. Kiplinger magazine named Identity Guard its #1 best ID theft protection service in 2015, and they were also recognized in the Online Trust Honor Roll in 2017.
IdentityForce leads the industry in monitoring coverage. They monitor nearly everything you can imagine and send you alerts to your smartphone and credit bureaus based on the type of suspicious activity they’ve detected.
Identity Guard covers a lot compared to many other services, but they lack driver’s license, email and sex offender monitoring, all of which you get with IdentityForce. They also don’t send fraud alerts to your credit bureaus.
IdentityForce blows Identity Guard out of the water in the recovery services they offer. While Identity Guard leaves a lot of ID recovery to your own devices, IdentityForce provides full recovery services, including 24/7 access to their fraud specialists.
IdentityForce’s theft experts take care of most of the recovery process for you, including contacting your financial institutions, handling paperwork, helping to secure attorney assistance if needed, and more. Each service, however, does provide a service guarantee (up to $1 million) to cover expenses you could incur if your identity gets stolen.
IdentityForce and Identity Guard both stand out for exceptional customer support and reputations. These two companies provide U.S.-based, 24/7 access to certified ID theft specialists and general customer service. Their websites also have a lot of useful resources about identity theft and the recovery process.
We also looked at online customer reviews for both companies. Identity Guard customer complaints focused mainly on hit or miss customer service reps. The IdentityForce complaints we found primarily involved problems accessing accounts online, but this didn’t appear to be a widespread problem.
Both IdentityForce and Identity Guard have apps for iOS and Android smartphones, where you get instant fraud alerts. Both companies’ mobile apps, however, are limited compared to what you can do on their websites.
App users overwhelmingly prefer IdentityForce to Identity Guard. We found many complaints about Identity Guard’s apps for both iOS and Android that they’re buggy, unreliable and difficult to use.
Identity Guard blows IdentityForce out of the water in this category. Identity Guard offers three different family plans that are among the most affordable you’ll find. IdentityForce only provides a child add-on plan but nothing for multiple adults in a household. Identity Force Child Watch, however, is reasonably priced at an additional $2.75 per month per child.
Winner: Identity Guard
Both services offer competitive pricing for the industry. As an individual, you’ll save more if you go with Identity Guard’s lowest plan compared to IdentityForce’s least expensive plan. If you want all the features each company has to offer, IdentityForce comes out on top. If you also want to cover a spouse or your family, however, Identity Guard’s family plans can save you a chunk of change, which is why it wins this category.
