America’s 1st Choice Home Club Review: Increasing Coverage Area

Stainless steel appliances in kitchenAmerica’s First Choice Home Club (AFC) jumped from servicing only two states to servicing all but two states in the matter of one year. The company quickly moved up in our rankings due to this transition as well as for other reasons. America’s First Choice Home Warranty covers a large number of appliances and systems and has a low $60 service call fee. We’re keeping our eye on this company because their reputation is a little rocky in some areas, but if it improves the company could rank even higher than the #3 spot for Best Home Warranty.

Do People Like AFC?

We always recommend speaking with customers of a home warranty provider before purchasing to see what their experience has been. Below are a few reviews we’ve gathered online for you to consider. We suggest you also call America’s First Choice Home Warranty and ask to speak with current customers in your area. This will give you a better idea of what you can expect from this company.

Positive Reviews

We checked out different companies before and what they had to offer, and ended up with America’s 1st Choice Home Club. Submitting a claim to them was very easy and their claims rep was very good. The tech was fantastic and his work was great. I had a really good experience. – Gail H., BBB 1/5/2017

I bought a home, moved into it and wanted something better than the home warranty company I had. I did a Google search and AFC had the best reviews. When I submitted a claim with them, it went smooth and the rep had it pushed through pretty quickly. The tech who came was a local company that I used a few times directly on my other needs. He was excellent. – Anthony, Consumer Affairs 11/6/2016

Negative Reviews

Refused to pay for covered repairs. On 27 February 2017 a garage door repair man came to my house and diagnosed the problem with my garage door motor. The motor needs replacing so the technician called AFC and was told they would only pay $150 of the $481 total charge. I was told because my unit was old that that’s all they would pay, depreciation they said. I don’t understand why I’m paying for a home warranty and the company not covering the total “covered” expense. – BBB 3/2/2017

I’m still waiting to receive a check from AFC and my experience has been awful. I raised a claim for a water heater and the girl that I talked to said that it had to do with plumbing. Clearly, she didn’t know what she was talking about. I was put on hold all the time. I never actually got to speak with a person that was in charge of the claim. And getting calls returned has been a problem. The technicians didn’t fix the problem, and there was water going everywhere. My husband had to call and get someone in before it did any further damage. – Teri, Consumer Affairs 3/19/2017

Tips for Buying Your First Home

Buying your first home is a big decision. We recommend negotiating a 12-month home warranty into your offer so you aren’t faced with a large financial burden during that first year of home ownership. Below are some more tips for first time home buyers.

Our Hopes for AFC

America’s 1st Choice Home Warranty previously offered coverage only in North Carolina and South Carolina and had fairly decent reviews. Since its transition to offering coverage in 46 states the company has had a few more negative reviews than we’d like to see. However, America’s First Choice Home Club also knows what it takes to provide great service. We hope that with time AFC can improve its reputation and will keep a watchful eye on them to see how their service stands up to rapid growth.

They are NOT in South Carolina.
Just bought a home and all the appliances are out of warranty. Debating if we should get a home warranty, anyone else tried this company?
