Kimberly in baby carrierThere are times where a stroller isn’t practical and carrying around a car seat is exhausting. That’s why baby carriers are a great alternative. You can wear your child instead of pushing a stroller through the busy farmer’s market, and free up your grocery cart space at the same time.

Wrap Carrier For Travel & Newborns: Boba Review

Boba WrapView on Amazon

The Boba Wrap is one long piece of fabric that you fold a specific way to carry your baby. It comes with instructions, but I’d recommend watching YouTube videos, like the one below, to make sure you are doing it correctly (I wasn’t until I watched a video!). I thought the videos were more clear and helpful than the instructions that came with the wrap.

I purchased the Boba Wrap for my son, because I thought he’d like the simplicity of it, no bulky material getting in the way and soft fabric holding him close to me. For a newborn, this was perfect. Getting the appropriate tightness can be tricky. Too tight and your baby may be uncomfortable. Too loose and it may not feel secure and your baby may move around too much.

It took some time for me to learn how to wrap the carrier properly and put my son in it on my own. Nothing a few tries couldn’t fix though! I wouldn’t recommend it for heavier babies because the wrap style doesn’t feel the most secure and it can hurt your back after a while. However, each person has their own preferences.

The great thing about this wrap is it can work on most body types and it’s easy to share with others. This is especially good during the postpartum phase when you may still look seven months pregnant but a few weeks later that could all change.

The Boba Wrap can be useful for travel since it packs down into a small bag and is lightweight. It is also a good carrier for newborns since it holds the child close to you (belly to belly). The Boba Wrap works for babies up to 35 pounds or 36 months old.

Pros

Cons

  • Easy to share with another person
  • Soft fabric
  • Machine washable
  • Can breastfeed while wearing
  • Learning how to wrap and and insert the baby properly takes time
  • Hurts your back after wearing it
  • Gets hot

For Back Pain: BabyBjorn Review

BabyBjornView on Amazon

BabyBjorn is one of the most well-known baby carriers and it works great. In fact, Jeff, our chief analytics officer here at Safe Smart Living, has used this baby carrier for all three of his children. He likes to use it in the kitchen when he’s cooking, while he’s working standing up at his desk or when his family goes for walks.

Jeff says the carrier is easy to get on and off and he likes that it feels secure. His one complaint is that it can get a bit hot at times. He’s had no issues with back pain and uses this carrier frequently. The BabyBjorn works for newborns up until they are 12 months old.

For Breastfeeding & Plus Size: Ergobaby 360 Cool Mesh Review

Ergobaby 360 Cool MeshView on Amazon

The Ergobaby is great for larger body types. You can use it for babies and toddlers weighing 12 to 33 pounds. If you want to use it for a newborn, you’ll need to purchase the insert (linked below in the price section).

It has excellent low back support and the shoulder straps have extra padding to help distribute your baby’s weight. This is a top pick for c-section moms since it has a wide, wraparound waistband. Also, mom’s say that breastfeeding is easy with this carrier.

The lightweight mesh helps keep you and your baby cool. You can wear your baby facing inward or outward, so they can explore the world around them easily. The waistband adjusts from 26 to 52 inches, shoulder straps 28 to 46 inches.

For Newborn: Baby K’Tan Breeze Review

Baby K'Tan BreezeView on Amazon

Baby K’Tan Breeze is a wrap style carrier without the confusing wrap part. It has a double-loop design to make it easy to put on. This wrap can be used for toddlers up to 35 pounds.

This carrier is different from others since you must purchase the size that fits you (XXS to XL). This is a drawback since you won’t be able to share the babywearing with others in your household easily.

However, it’s still an excellent pick for carrying your newborn. Babies love being belly to belly with Mom or Dad and this carrier allows for that.

Pros

Cons

  • Easier to use than a traditional wrap that is one long piece of fabric
  • 50% lightweight mesh to help keep you cool
  • Machine washable
  • Can breastfeed while wearing
  • Not one size fits all
  • Not the most supportive for when the child gets heavier

The Little Hopper is made out of denim, which is different than its competitors which are mainly made out of cotton and mesh. This baby carrier can have the shoulder straps removed so you can rest your child on your hip.

This can be used for babies weighing as little as 10 pounds up to toddlers weighing 45 pounds. This carrier fits people measuring up to 46 inches around your belly button.

Pros

Cons

  • Machine washable
  • Wear the baby on your front or back

You can wear your child 6 different ways with this baby carrier including a hip position, which most carriers don’t allow for. The LILLEbaby carrier features a zippered pocket and an extendable torso for a comfortable fit.

You can control how warm your child gets with the 3D mesh air panel. Children up to 45 pounds can be worn in this carrier, which is why it’s great for toddler wearing.

I purchased this after my son got a little bigger since I needed more support than what the Boba Wrap could offer. I love how easy it is to put on and how supportive it is.

Pros

Cons

  • Easy to adjust
  • Machine washable
  • Wear the baby facing in or out, or on your back
  • Great lumbar support
  • Can breastfeed while wearing
