Things To Consider
When you’re looking for solar-powered motion security lights, here are some things to consider.
- Area of illumination: How much space you will want to light up?
- Brightness output: The higher the lumens (lm), the brighter the light.
- Lighting modes: You can set how the light activates and schedule when it’s on.
- Battery: Most have a lithium-ion battery, but how well do they charge? And do they need direct sunlight?
- Solar panel location: Solar panels will either be built into the light or separate and connected with a cord.
- Motion-detection range: How far away will the light detect motion?
- Added home security features: Do you want just a light or a combination light and camera?

LED Flood Lights: Solla Review
Flood lights are a popular choice for outdoor security lighting, especially if you have a large outdoor space you need to illuminate. The Solla LED Solar Motion Sensor Flood Light sets itself apart from other solar security lights because it’s very user-friendly. You can set the sensor to detect at 20, 33 and 49 feet and lighting time for 30, 60, and 120 seconds.
Solla recommends that you place the light under the roof to increase longevity. That doesn’t give us the most confidence in the product materials, and some reviewers aren’t confident in the sensor’s consistency.

Wide Angle Illumination: AmeriTop Review
Illuminating a large outdoor space with a solar motion light can be difficult, but this AmeriTop light is an excellent choice with wide-angle 180° illumination. It’s also the brightest solar motion light in our reviews. The high-efficiency solar panel can reach a full charge in just a few hours.
Other great features are the 49-foot motion-detection distance and 3 adjustable heads, so you can position this light to cover exactly where you need lighting. You can also customize the light-up time, and there are 3 modes available for use: test mode, auto mode and permanent on mode.
There are some potential downsides to this light. Even though AmeriTop states that the sensing range is 20% higher than general solar lights, some customer reviews state that may not be the case. Several complain that the detection range is much shorter than their stated 49 feet.

Security Camera: Ring Spotlight Cam Review
View Solar Panel on Amazon | View Camera on Amazon
Do you want a combination security light and outdoor camera? If so, you’ll want to consider the Ring Spotlight Cam powered by the Ring Solar panel, the closest thing you’ll find to a solar-powered security system.
This camera connects to an app on your phone and can also connect to Amazon Alexa. When the camera detects motion, it activates the spotlight and sends alerts to your phone. You’ll also enjoy extra features like two-way audio, a siren that you can activate from your app and customizable motion sensors.
The camera is high-quality and gives you a clear picture day and night with 1080 HD video and infrared night vision, but you’ll have to pay a monthly fee if you want video recording. Also, the light isn’t nearly as bright as others we review here which may be a deciding factor for you.
