You’re looking for some extra peace of mind but don’t want to throw all your hard earned money toward a security company. What company offers the cheapest home security monitoring? There are many options for you to consider, but know that the best price will always be with self-monitored systems (systems you monitor yourself). We’ve made it easy for you to make the best choice by ranking the top 5 self-monitored home alarm systems by cost.

What Is Self-Monitored?

For each of these security systems in this article, you are in charge of contacting the authorities if an alarm is triggered. For example, you get a notification that motion was detected in your living room, so you open up your security system app to view the live video feed. You see that your cat knocked over a lamp. For this instance, you do not need to contact the authorities. But, had you opened up your app and saw a stranger tearing your home apart, you would want to dial 911 immediately. Self-monitored home security is great because it means no monthly fees, but you do need to be aware that you are in charge of getting help when needed.

What Is “No Contract” Home Security?

What does it mean not to have a home security contract? You won’t be bound to one security company for years nor have a cancellation fee. We get locked into contracts for our cell phones, satellite TV and other everyday items so often that it’s nice to choose when you want service for something. Priorities and needs change, and this is especially true for home security. What’s important to you one year may change next year. Having the flexibility to pay for the equipment and then monitor your system how you see fit is convenient. None of the security systems in this article have contracts.

Additional Fees

The only fee you’ll need to worry about paying after you purchase your equipment, and depending on the system you choose, is for cloud storage video recording. This fee pays for space on the cloud where your video camera footage and the activity noted by your sensors are saved.

The Best 5 Self-Monitored Home Alarm Systems Are…

We chose the winners based on the price of the core system. You’ll note that each of these providers varies somewhat in their core functionality and optional features. Bottom line each one can be used to secure your home at an affordable cost. Just make sure to take the time to educate yourself on how the system works. Got questions? We’ve got a comments section below so ask away!

Novi Security#5

Price: $299

Novi rounds out our top five with its lone device style security system. The cool thing about Novi is that it is installed on the ceiling and acts as a camera as well as a smoke detector. However, it only takes photos, not video. You can connect up to six sensors on one system.

We are trying to un-bundle our internet from TV and phone and have a phone line because our current system ADT requires a phone line. If we went this route we could save tons of money including not needing to be on a phone plan.
