We can’t compare pricing since it varies based on location, but we can compare plans. We like that you can create your own plan through AHS, so you aren’t paying for appliances or systems that you don’t have in your home. However, you may like Old Republic’s detailed plans to cover your list of appliances and systems. This is a tie depending on your wants.

Customer Service & Reputation

American Home Shield is accredited by the Better Business Bureau with a B Rating, while Old Republic is also accredited but sports an A+ rating. AHS customers complain about appliances and systems being repaired over and over instead of having them replaced. Additionally, customers say they spend a lot of time on the phone trying to get claims approved.

Old Republic isn’t free of customer complaints either. Customers say they don’t always get the best contractors, and there are many negative reviews stating customers’ displeasure with their service.

We found thousands of AHS customer reviews and only hundreds for Old Republic. AHS also had more of a balance of positive to negative reviews, while Old Republic’s were mainly negative, which is why AHS wins this category.American Home Shield logo
